As a private rescue we rely on the generosity of people to help us with  our costs.

To keep a healthy Guinea Pig in good food, hay and veg costs around £5 per week. In comparison a Guinea Pig that is unwell say due to mite infestation can take up to a month sometimes longer to eradicate, treatment for severe mites requires 3 injections by a vet, approximate cost £24 plus consultation fees, this cost just for one Piggy.

Some of the Guineas Pigs that come into our care, will remain at the rescue for the rest of their lives, this could be due to a health problem that will require long term management or that the piggy is too old and frail  to cope with yet another new home.

For £5 per month you could help us with the high veterinary costs and general welfare needs of our resident piggies,. We have around 70 piggies to care for at any one time. This would make an ideal present for a child or adult who is unable to have pets of their own, knowing that they are helping a piggy who desperately needs it, makes the sponsorship all the more special.

Please see below some of our residents who will remain at the rescue, who would love to know that they have been chosen to be loved by you,if only, as a virtual reality pet. With your permission we would feature your name at the side of the piggy you have chosen to sponser for the month or longer. With Grateful Thanks.

We thought it would be lovely to have Mercury's photos on this page (as a baby and shortly before his death.)as he was such a well loved piggy. Everybody who met or heard of Mercury always wanted to know how he was doing. We miss him greatly, he was such a character, full of fun and mischief. To pick Mercury up all you ever had to do was place both hands in his pen and he leaped straight up into them. Sadly after he went blind he was a little unsure and needed to be spoken to for a short time before jumping upwards. We were delighted when he built his confidence enough to do this again.Mercury arrived as a 4.5 week old, very interbred baby and had 4 different partners(mostly oap's) in his lifetime. He was 4 years and 6 months old when he died. RIP sweet lad we will always miss and remember you.

Hello, I am Poppy. I was rescued a few weeks ago just in time. I was found in a 'Pet Shop'. No one wanted me because I have a head tilt, I was going to be PTS!  I am gaining weight and my mum says I am becoming podgy Poppy. I weighed only 10oz at 10 weeks old. I am loving it here and am finding my feet in the Big Girls Pen. It was a wee bit scary to start with but the Girls are all very polite. I have found a friend in Gypsy, she cuddles up close to me and saves me from the head girl (Merdushka) when I get too boistrous. Please will you sponsor me so that I can continue to live at the Rescue and have the Physio that I need. I have not had much in the way of treats in my short life so please help me and love me. Poppy.

We are Lemon and Minnie and we are senior citizens. We do have slight problems with our kidneys and drink an awful lot in a day. Because of this and not really knowing what the future may hold for us, plus our old mum and dad asking that we be kept permanently at the rescue we will be staying on, we hope to be here a very long time.Would anyone looking at our picture and reading our story sponsor us please. It shows that we are thought of and loved and also means lots of special treats for special piggies.Thankyou.

Very sadly Minnie went over Rainbow Bridge late last night. RIP Little one.

Hi I am Zest, I was adopted along with another piggy now called Jingles. Our new mum was so worried about us that after 2 days she asked Thistle Cavies if they would nurse us. I had fungal and it had been treated but the product was too harsh and had given me more problems. I was very tiny at 6 weeks old weighing only 6 oz's, I also had the start of scurvy and mites, had loose, crumbly discoloured teeth and was blind. It took 7 weeks to get me looking like I am in the photo and during this time I became very close to my newest mum and it was decided that I and Jingles would stay at the Rescue as we were both so happy and bouncing with life.Unfortunately I am still blind but manage very well and love all my new friends (human and piggy) no one has been unkind to me and  my favourite thing is to race up my mums front and perch on her shoulder.

I would love to have you sponsor me, it would mean an awful lot to me and it would show that you care for me and my kind.

Thankyou.

Hi I am Tealeaf, the one on the far right of the photo. Sadly both my mum and my sister have recently gone to the Bridge to be with my father and brother.

Our bad breeding is telling on me now too.I nearly died a fortnight ago but fortunately my mum had the medicines to hand that I so desperatly needed. I have been diagnosed with a very bad Heart murmer. I am now on meds daily to help me live as long and full a life as possible.

I hope you feel that you can still sponsor me now that I am the only one of the family left. I still live with the girls in the big pen but am a bit quieter now,no more big zoomies round the cage for me. Thankyou.

Hi, I am Captain Cuddles. I am around 5/6 years of age and was left abandoned, no longer wanted. A kind lady found me and took me to the vet, looked after me and then arranged for me to live at Thistle Cavies. I am quite happy here, the food is good and the beds are warm and dry and smell so lovely....makes you hungry just thinking about it. I would love to have some sponsors, might help to make up for the hurt of being unwanted in my senior years. Thankyou.

Hello I am  Little Hero. As I am just a tiny little girl my mum is going to tell my story. Little Hero was born almost 4 weeks ago in a traumatic  birth. She was head to shoulder with her sisiter and was tiny weighing in at 1.6 ounces, just half the size of her siblings. For the first two days she fed well from mum and then gave up. I took over her feeds and she fought bravely and started to gain weight. Today she weighs 5.2 ounces compared to her brothers 10.7 and her sisters 9.4. Little Hero has tooth problems where her incisors do not meet completely and are also spaced apart. We are hoping as she grows that this may correct itself but if not she will have whatever help and treatment she needs. Recently she has started to popcorn like mad and is the first to wheek and squeak when she hears the fridge door being opened. She is very cheeky and lovable. She asks that you sponsor her so that she can continue to get all the treats and your well wishes.

Meet Hickory, a little almost Rex boar. Hickory was born with a slight wry neck and if he looks up he topples over, he also has a not quite right left eye. He manages to get around okay....mostly ....just the odd accidental topple. He is a lovely little chap and will stay with us as at some point in the future he will need some work done on his left eye. If you would like to sponsor this wee lad just click the button below.
